Vets League 2023 Match 1 Report

This is a match report covering the running, jumping and throwing efforts of our Vets League teams in the first match of 2023 on May 22nd.
I am immensely grateful to you all for turning out on what was a very pleasant evening. Name checks below.
The match results take a little while to process but provisionally the men’s team was second to Barnet and District, with the minimalist women’s team 6th out of 8.
For the tiny women’s team not to trail in last is a fine achievement, and each of them deserves a mention. Lorna attempted one jump, one run and one throw. First in the 100m, 2nd in the long jump, 5thin the shot and a long way first in overt expressions of enjoyment and pleasure. Kim warmed down from the previous day’s Hackney Half by taking third in the 1500m. And Dulce clearly enjoyed the coaching and camaraderie in her first ever attempts at shot and discus.
The men’s team was much more populous, so not too many name checks, except perhaps for Asha, who wins the nattiest tracksuit award. In the 100m we had 3 firsts, a second and a seventh. In the 400m first, second and seventh. In the 1500 two thirds, a fourth and two fifths. The relay team was fourth. We had win and a fourth in the hammer, and 6th in the Shot. With such a wide array of skills and competitors I feel we deserve better than 2nd.
I hope everyone is looking forward to the next match on Monday 26th June at Stevenage SG2 9PB
